Why Steadypaws exists

I built Steadypaws for my dog.

Hi, I’m Ryan. This is Ivy, our five-year-old rescue German Shepherd × Collie. She’s an anxious dog, and being left alone was the thing she found hardest.

The problem

Plenty of advice. No plan.

Every guide said the same thing: build up time alone gradually, and never push past what your dog can handle. The method made sense.

What was missing was everything around it. How long should today’s session be? Is she getting better or are we going backwards? Without a plan and a record, it was guesswork, and it was easy to give up.

I’m a self-taught developer, so I built the thing I wanted: a timer, a goal that adapts to how the last session went, and a record of every single session. That became Steadypaws.

We fell off. That’s normal.

In the summer I changed jobs and Ivy’s training stopped for months. Life gets in the way, and that’s exactly when most people give up on separation anxiety training.

When we picked it back up in October, the log meant we knew exactly where we’d left off. This week she stayed calm for 13 minutes, then over 20, while I walked to the shop. Not a single bark.

The plan Ivy follows

Gradual exposure, structured. Three steps, repeated until the door is boring.

01

Set up your dog

Tell us their anxiety level and history. Steadypaws sets a starting goal your dog can actually handle, even if that's 30 seconds.

02

Run a session

Start the timer, step out, come back before your dog panics. Log how it went and the next goal adapts automatically.

03

Watch it climb

Good sessions stretch the goal, tough days shrink it. The chart turns months of tiny wins into something you can see.

What Steadypaws is (and isn’t)

Free where it matters

The core training (timer, smart goals, streaks, reminders) is free forever. No trial that runs out halfway through your dog’s progress.

No ads, no data selling

Your training log is yours. Steadypaws only collects what it needs to work.

Built by one person

No investors or growth team. One developer, one very real test dog, and a lot of care over the details.

Honest about limits

Severe cases can need a certified behaviourist or vet alongside training. Steadypaws is the daily practice and the log you bring to them.

Where’s your dog starting from?

Your first session takes five minutes and costs nothing. Steadypaws sets a starting goal your dog can actually handle.
